What I’ve Read This Week
Critical Thinking Is About Asking Better Questions (HBR)
Here are a few ways to enhance your ability to interrogate even the most difficult topics:
Hold your hypotheses loosely.
Listen more than you talk.
Leave your queries open-ended.
Consider the counterintuitive.
Stew in a problem.
Ask the hard follow-up questions.
Cost Per Meeting (Amanda Goetz)
From Amanda’s Twitter:
All managers should calculate CPM (Cost Per Meeting)
Average hourly rate of each employee in the meeting + opportunity cost of breaking their flow state / productivity
I can assure you everyone would be more intentional with those invites.

Brand Strategy 101 (Planning Dirty)
Here is a helpful slide deck on Brand Strategy 101, going through the history of brand strategy, a number of theories, creating strategies and some great examples.
A New Framework
What’s In It For Me (WIIFM) is the central question that employees are concerned with when faced with organizational change.
When conducting any change, leaders must be able to answer this questions for their team members/employees. (e.g., Will they be working with different people? Will they require different knowledge to perform their job well? Will their job responsibilities be altered?) Being able to answer this question for those people will increase the likelihood of a change that sticks.

MyChart Messaging Charging by Cleveland Clinic (Cleveland Clinic)
Cleveland Clinic announced last week that messages through MyChart will become billable.
From Cleveland Clinic: “Over the last few years, virtual options have played a bigger role in our lives. And since 2019, the amount of messages providers have been answering has doubled. Staying connected is important, and your provider is committed to responding to your needs in a timely way — within three business days. Most of these messages are free. However, starting November 17, 2022, MyChart responses that require your provider’s clinical time and expertise to answer may be billed to your insurance. There may be a co-pay based on your insurance company’s guidelines. This will allow us to continue to provide the high level of care you have come to expect from Cleveland Clinic.”
I’m super fascinated to see how this plays out. Perhaps some subscription in the near future as a way to bundle more messages vs. strictly fee-for-service.
