The Weekly Minute - Feb. 9, 2024
It is Super Bowl Weekend
Enjoy the game. Enjoy the food. Enjoy the commercials. And enjoy Taylor! ;)
I’m on the Chiefs this weekend. It’s too hard for me to bet against Mahomes.
What I Read
Hats, Haircuts and Tattoos (via The Daily Coach and James Clear)
To best-selling author James Clear, there are three key types of decisions. And I loved reading these… such an interesting take.
1. Hats
Low-cost choices
You can make a poor one with few consequences
Move quickly and don’t overthink these
Example: Choosing between wearing a tie or a nice sweater to an event.
2. Haircuts
Mistakes that have some consequences but aren’t fatal
Our choices may make us look foolish for a short time, but will likely be forgotten
Don’t be scared of these. They’re usually risks that are worth a shot
Example: Spending a lot of money on a guest speaker to address the team.
3. Tattoos
Decisions with long-term repercussions
Irreversible choices that can haunt us for years to com
Should go about these deliberately and and with careful calculation
Example: Quitting our job and sending a scathing resignation letter to our boss.
On Organizational Culture
A sneak peek into 15 pages of the Facebook Employee Handbook (h/t/ Greg Isenberg)
This is beautifully designed and portrayed brilliantly.
Click on Greg’s tweet and check out the thread.
My favorite page is below. You need to disrupt yourself.
On Customer Experience
Disney's 7 Guest Service Guidelines (via ‘Be Our Guest’ book)
These are magical.
The Sneezy one is especially creative: "Spread the spirit of Hospitality... It's contagious!
On Presenting
My favorite writing (and presenting) tip from Aristotle:
1) Tell them what you are going to tell them
2) Tell them
3) Tell them what you told them
So simple, but so powerful.
