The Weekly Minute - December 15, 2023
Hi all and Happy Friday! It’s a brief collection this week, but I’m starting to brainstorm and think of ways how I can further develop come the New Year.
Stay tuned.
Two Thoughts On Focus
The person who focuses on fewer things goes further than the person distracted by many.
The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing
Healthcare Strategy
Where CommonSpirit's CIO is focused next (via Becker’s)
Daniel Barchi, senior executive vice president and CIO of Chicago-based CommonSpirit Health, sees digital technology transforming healthcare. But not necessarily through more applications and IT spend.
What do you think of digital innovation in healthcare right now What excites you most?
“The thing that excites me the most is the way we can use data to improve the care we deliver.”
What are your top priorities for technology? What are the big issues you're trying to solve?
“It's important to recognize that more technology is not better. We're not looking for more technology at every turn; what we're trying to see is what are the best tools we can provide our caregivers so that they're able to best serve the needs of our patients.”
Five years from now, what do you think will be the most significant change in healthcare delivery and operations, and how should leaders prepare?
“If I think about things like AI, there was a great Harvard Business Review quote that said AI is not going to replace leaders, but leaders who use AI will replace leaders who do not use AI. We're all going to have to become very facile with using tools like AI to drive the way we change care.”
Mayo Clinic’s Growth Strategy for 2030: Cure, connect and transform (via Becker’s)
"We know that we can't do it without having a robust people strategy, a workforce of the future strategy, as well as maintaining solid financial performance in a time where we're seeing a lot of financial pressures."
Jobs To Be Done as Patient in Healthcare
If you’re unfamiliar with the ‘Jobs to be Done’ framework, I suggest you watch this brief video.
Individuals likely have three Jobs with regard to their health and wellness
“Fix me when I’m broken""
“Sustain my health”
“Enhance my health “
